Nelson's Christmas Letter 2007

Merry Christmas from the Nelson Family!

This Christmas season 2007 is very special to us. December 11 marks our silver anniversary (and Hether’s birthday). We thank God for blessing our marriage in so many ways for so many years.

Paul, 31 years into his career as a Boeing engineer, keeps busy with house, yard, and boat projects.

Hether continues enjoy figure skating, and, in February, she performed in a local ice show. Her performance included a difficult layback spin. Also this year, she attended her 30th high school class reunion.

Ian, 14 this year, is about to pass his dad in height. He is a student at Curtis Junior High School and a member of the Honor Society. He completed hunter safety training this year.

Bridget, 8, attending Heritage Christian School, is also an “A” student and a versatile artist. She has strong computer skills and knows how to talk for hours on the phone with her classmates.

The travel highlight of the year was our July Baltic Cruise with the Elrod side of the family, as guests of Hether’s parents. We flew to Copenhagen and boarded the Star Princess, and cruised to Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg (two days), Tallinn (Estonia), and Oslo. Gdansk, Poland was also on the itinerary, but the ship bypassed the port due to high winds that day. In St. Petersburg, we visited Peterhof and Catherine palaces, and the famous Hermitage Museum.

In July, we joined an extended Nelson family get-together at Peter and Jeri's Deer lake place north of Spokane. As usual, it was a wonderful visit with great weather. The kids always look forward to spending time with their cousins. We also celebrated Norm Nelson’s 80th birthday.

Also in July, we walked across the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge on opening day.

We used our boat extensively this year. In August, the family, including our poodle Koa, took a week long trip to the San Juan Islands. Hether enjoyed the remodeled galley and Ian got lots of use of the new dinghy and outboard. Although all the destinations were familiar to Paul and Hether, this was the first San Juan Islands cruise for the kids. Other boat destinations included Penrose and Jarrell Cove state Parks, and downtown Seattle on Thanksgiving weekend.

At the end August, Ian and Bridget flew to San Jose for an extended weekend stay with Their Uncle William and Aunt Selby’s family.

The family is spending Christmas and New Year holidays in Hawaii. Mele Kalikimaka and Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!
